New Trier Township embarked upon a new program this summer, forging a partnership with Lake Bluff based Bernie’s Book Bank, a non-profit that collects gently used and new children’s books and redistributes them to at- risk kids across Illinois.
“We saw this as an opportunity to help children from low-moderate income homes enjoy the benefits of book ownership. Our supporters in the North Shore got behind the cause and made this pilot program a success,” stated Paddie Brennen, Township Supervisor.
The Books for ALL Children collection ran from late June through August 12, 2016. Based on the number of full bins collected, the Township exceeded its goal of 2,000 books, netting 3,350 donated to Bernie’s Book Bank.
New Trier Township hopes to do Spring and summer drives with Bernie’s in 2017. Any local groups interested in participating in the upcoming children’s book collections should contact Jack Macholl, Communications Director via email at [email protected]
