Every year, AbbVie chooses Bernie’s Book Bank as one of the organizations they volunteer at. We are thrilled to have AbbVie volunteers here, especially when they aim to sort half a MILLION books! The AbbVie volunteers help us relentlessly push forward to iradicate illiteracy by focusing on increasing book ownership. We cannot thank them enough!
“AbbVie recently launched its fourth annual Week of Possibilities, a volunteer function which will invite more than 6,000 employees in 50 companies to volunteer approximately 26,000 hours in their local communities.
Week of Possibilities was started in 2014 with outreach programs in the North Chicago area. By 2016, there were over 25,000 hours donated in 50 countries. This year’s event started on June 26.
Organizations that volunteers will be connected with include Heart of American Foundation and Points of Light. The week is organized by the AbbVie Foundation, which also gives funds to school renovation projects, computer labs, housing and other areas.
Service projects across the U.S. include Lake County, Ill., where volunteers will be leading STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] programs, help with classroom renovation, work to build a new playground at the A.J. Katzenmaier Academy and sort 500,000 books at Bernie’s Book Bank.
In Worcester, Mass., volunteers will be renovating the science lab at Worcester East Middle School.
In San Jose, Calif., a new playground will be built at Los Arboles Elementary School.
Other volunteer initiatives will be held in Tampa, Fla., Atlanta, Kansas City, Mo., Washington, Philadelphia and other U.S. cites.
