An investment in Bernie’s Book Bank is an investment in children.
The impact of your investment in Bernie’s Book Bank is immediate. Every $100 you donate allows us to serve 21 children with 12 quality books for the year.
Each child we serve becomes part of a long-term, sustainable program aimed at providing them with quality, advancing levels of books that grow over time with the child’s reading level.
Your investment in Bernie’s Book Bank today will help us serve more children annually and prepare for widespread expansion.
Currently, Bernie’s Book Bank serves 100,000 children in Chicagoland and provides a minimum of two bags of books to each child, every year.
We have collected, processed and distributed over 3.3 MILLION quality books since 2009. We are growing quickly to distribute 4 MILLION quality books per year, serving all 300,000 at-risk children in the Chicagoland area by 2016. Then we plan to establish Bernie’s Book Bank locations in every major metropolitan city in America.
Because regardless of their economic status, no child should be denied access to books.
Bernard P. Floriani Foundation DBA Bernie’s Book Bank is a registered 501(c)3 organization with the IRS (EIN 27-0914453) so every donation received is eligible for a maximum tax deduction!
WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
Bernie’s Book Bank performs three functions exceptionally well:
- First, we collect new and quality, used children’s books through partnerships with book distributors and publishers, schools, businesses, and other organizations. Bernie’s Book Bank manages the entire process, taking the burden off of schools and organizations, and maximizing the donations of quality books.
- Second, we process books in our processing center with the help of a large pool of volunteers. Each book is purged for quality, sorted into an age-appropriate category, “fingerprinted” with a Bernie’s Book Bank sticker, and placed into a distribution-ready bag along with a collection of other books.
- Third, Bernie’s Book Bank distributes bags of books to large populations of at-risk children through identified schools and social service organizations.
Our standard is to collect, process and distribute a quality book to a child who needs it for just 25 cents.
