1st Annual Book Lovers’ Lunch Chicago
Featuring Author Jamie Ford
The 1st Annual Books Lovers’ Lunch Chicago was a wonderful triumph! The lunch took place Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Union League Club of Chicago. Over 130 guests attended this SOLD OUT event, featuring Jamie Ford, bestselling author of the award winning novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and his latest work, Songs of Willow Frost.
The lunch kicked off with a book signing by Ford. Jamie delivered a keynote presentation about his life, his writing (including charming anecdotes of “tweets” from students) and his love of books. In this presentation, Ford explained his feeling of connection to our mission. He told a story of how he could have been one of the children Bernie’s Book Bank serves. Growing up without books in his home, Jamie would collect bottles on the side of the road for money to buy books. He mentioned how the first time he saw New York City was in a Spiderman comic book.
Following the presentation was an earnest message from Bernie’s Book Bank Founder and Executive Director, Brian Floriani, as well as a new video presentation sponsored by GEM Realty Capital. The event concluded with a book signing of Ford’s books, provided for purchase through The Book Cellar of Chicago, with a portion of every book sold during the event donated to Bernie’s Book Bank.
“I was so encouraged by the turn out of our first Book Lovers’ Lunch Chicago,” said Floriani. “Jamie Ford was absolutely spectacular and we are so grateful for his endorsement of the work we are doing throughout Chicagoland. The support this event garnished means a lot to us as an organization and will play a tremendous role in our continued growth!”
Special thanks to our wonderful staff, tireless volunteers and accomplished event committee, co-chaired by Jacqueline Babb of Glencoe, Jennifer Edgcomb of Chicago and Suzanne Mahoney of Lake Forest.
And many thanks to our event sponsors for their support of Bernie’s Book Bank:
